The Batman

A sidekick and two villains that are suggested in the trailer

The DC FanDome 2021 held online last Saturday, October 16, left us with several satisfying news and a lot to look forward to: new animated movies, a good share of live-action movies, a quite worthy duo of video games and the long-awaited second trailer from The Batman, the film with which Matt Reeves is silencing all those who said that Robert Pattinson would not make a good Batman. But what other characters besides Catwoman, James Gordon, Alfred, Riddler, and Penguin appeared in the trailer?

Joker's presence in 'The Batman'

There has been much speculation about whether The Batman will have any connection to the Joaquin Phoenix Joker universe created by Todd Phillips. Even Pattinson had declared in an interview that he "is a different world" when talking about his film in relation to the dark origin of Arthur Fleck. However, we couldn't help but notice the gang of clowns beaten up by Batman.

For some this may mean they'll be following some Joker-esque villain in Gotham, while others think it's just a nod to the character. This may be the most correct, it seems that these criminals are only there to pay him a small tribute... unless it happens as in Batman Begins, where at the end of the movie it was introduced that Joker would be the villain of the next installment.

A Robin appeared in the trailer for 'The Batman'

Three character cameos you probably didn't notice in 'The Batman' trailer

Specifically, Tim Drake, better known as "the third Robin". His appearance, however, is not even mentioned in the trailer, nor on IMDB... nor in the script. That is, the character is not in the film, but the actor is. Jay Lycurgo is Tim Drake in the Titans series, but he also has a small role in this movie.

Lycurgo is among the clowns beaten by "Battinson", but it is normal that he has not been located, after all he is made up. Yes, it's silly, but it's a nice touch. Also, I'm sure Lycurgo is very happy: he's Robin in a series and he appears in The Batman movie. Straight to success.

Could Two Face appear in The Batman?

One of the central characters in the plot of this film and in the Riddler's plot is Gil Colson, who is named as Gotham's District Attorney City. And of all the important district attorneys in Batman history, there is only one that stands out: Harvey Dent, who after half of his face was deformed, became Two Face.

Riddler accuses Colson of being a liar and corrupt, as he basically does to all Gotham cops and officials, that's his modus operandi. Therefore, accusing Colson of being a "two-faced" seems like a pretty good nod to build his criminal identity. But how can it be Harvey Dent if his name is Gil Colson?

Simple: in this universe, Two Face would not be called Harvey Dent. Just as Riddler is not called Edward Nigma, but Edward Nashton, or as in Joker he was not called Jack Napier (the only name that had been given to the clown) but Arthur Fleck, a completely new name. Let's not let that possibility pass us by.
