With the one on Sunday, it will be 30 times and 15 years that the Asturian María Lafuente will have paraded in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, the most important national catwalk on the calendar. The moment of Asturian fashion will not end after the presentation of her new collection, because before closing the 73rd edition of the former Pasarela Cibeles, Paula Currás from Gijón, Corsicana's alma mater, will parade as one of the eight candidates to win the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent Award.

Sunday's will be a key event for Asturian fashion and modeling. Lafuente will begin by presenting on the 'Off' stage his collection 'Cocoon' ('renaissance'), a tribute to freedom, reinvention and the power of inner transformation of each individual. His proposals for the autumn-winter 21/22 season are reflected in organic and architectural patterns with different volumes: flowers, petals and butterflies, pieces made with plastic from Solán de Cabras bottles. All in ecru, beige, pink, night blue, intense yellow, soft gray and black colors that four models from the region will be in charge of showing off with a firm step at the Spanish Olympic Committee (11 am): Sonia Robles, María Jurado, Blanca Picatto and Paula Argüelles, all from the Rassim's agency.

The Asturian designer advocates fashion as art at the service of culture, sustainability and social responsibility. For this reason, in collaboration with Signus (management of used tires) and Lowpoly (3D printing with sustainable materials), she creates pieces with details of tire dust. He has worked with wool and maintained his taste for Thai artisan silk to the point that the one used for 'Cocoon' has been provided by the Royal Thai Government (Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, the king's daughter, is a designer). Lafuente also uses tencel fiber fabric approved by the forest certification recognition program and works with Textil Santanderina.

Corsicana is the women's fashion brand in which Paula Currás from Gijón has been combining design, architecture, cinema, music, collecting, durability and sustainability since she created it in 2017. Such is the case that the garments that come out of her workshop they are produced only when the customer buys them. Her collections don't follow seasons either, which is why each campaign is one more chapter of the story she tells. The one that will be seen this Sunday at Ifema -where this Madrid Fashion Week began yesterday- is called 'Vol. VII - A House (with white gloves)' and has as its common thread a gang of white-collar thieves who plan to carry out the most anticipated coup of their careers.

Fluid silhouettes and gloves

The collection takes the action to a house in the Torres Blancas building (1969) by Sáenz de Oiza, a classic in the Madrid skyline. The 'thieves', with very marked personalities and a lot of theatricality, will wear fluid silhouettes, tailored garments, minimalist volumes and pleated fabrics. As for the chromatic palette, blacks, whites, grays, silvers, reds, ochres, beiges stand out. The jewelery -brooches, bracelets, chokers or strass-, trench coats, jackets, glasses, caps, hats, scarves and many gloves finish off the proposal of the candidate for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award.

Asturian modeling will debut on Saturday with Sonia Robles, María Jurado, Teresa Sánchez and Dayana Calderón -from Rassim's-, who will walk the catwalk for Pilar Dalbat.
