It will be the highest electricity price so far this year

The price of electricity in the wholesale market (pool) shoots up again. For tomorrow, Monday, it stands at 217.26 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), which means exceeding the value set for this Sunday by 82%. In this way, this Monday will be its highest price of the whole year.

With this increase, the price of electricity multiplies by more than three the amount registered just one year ago. At that time, it was paid at 66.27 euros/MWh, in the middle of storm Filomena.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the price for tomorrow will again exceed the barrier of 200 euros/MWh. This is a value that was reached in almost 70% of the days in October, in 45% of the days in November and in 80% of those in December.

In the first ten days of January, the average price of electricity stood at 171.12 euros/MWh, 28% less than the average registered during the month of December (239.17 euros/MWh), the most expensive in the story to date.

What hours will it be more expensive?

According to data from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE), the maximum price tomorrow will be registered between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., when it will be 294.98 euros/MWh. On the other hand, the minimum price of electricity will be 158.7 euros/MWh this Monday between 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning.
