New York (CNN) -each year, buyers hope to find a lot of juicy offers when they start buying the end of the year gifts. This year, these great discounts could be more difficult to achieve and the stagnation of the world supply chain is fault.

Retailers around the world are fighting so that their merchandise does not get stuck in container ships that transport them due to the congestion of the ports. To the problem is the shortage of workers necessary to download and transport products from ships to stores and distribution centers.

Many stores will not be able to get the merchandise that should have already arrived for the start of the Christmas sales season. And when they are exhausted the articles they have, they risk being left without those articles for much longer than usual.

Inventory limitations make stores less incentives to offer discounts on the products they have.

Macy's executives, who spoke at a Goldman Sachs conference last month, said the retailer has offered less discounts this year due to a more adjusted inventory, which has helped increase its benefits.

"From the promotional point of view, this year's promotion levels have been lower than historical levels, and we have thought about the categories that need promotion and we will continue to do so," said Macy's financial director, Adrian Mitchell, during theconference.

The women's clothing chain J.Jill also pointed out that discounts will be less substantial in the coming weeks.

"The interruption of the supply chain is increasing, which translates into high shipping costs and delays," said the financial director of J.Jill, Mark Webb, during the last call of the retailer with analysts in September.

Less products, less offers

While the company is working with its suppliers to streamline shipments, Webb said it hopes that these interruptions will continue in the coming weeks.Webb added that the retailer is focusing on compensating the highest costs derived from the press chain pressures by offering less discounts and selling products at full price.

Steve Lawrence, Marketing Director of the Academy Sports + Outdoors Sporting Chain, also told CNN Business that buyers will see less important discounts during this year's Christmas season.

"There have been much fewer promotions in the market because there has been a shortage of offer...Last year he did not have many promotions. We do not believe that these parties will have many promotions either, ”said Lawrence.

Wells Fargo Ike Boruchow analyst said in a note of this month that retailers offered less promotions in September than at the same time last year when entering the Christmas shopping period.

"The liquidations fell again in September, probably due to the problems of the supply chain," Rabuchow wrote in the note."The closures in Vietnam factories, as well as delays in the ports, are limiting the ability of brands and retailers to bring the product".
