The United States, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Ecuador were the main buyers of this delegation of international businessmen, followed by destinations such as the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Canada. Likewise, the garments most desired by foreigners were sportswear, shapewear and control clothing, bathing suits and underwear, which have had a good export performance during the health situation.

The most important missions of international buyers came from the United States, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica and Guatemala. Virtually, meetings were also held with businessmen from the Netherlands Antilles, the United Arab Emirates and India.

“We are looking to have closer productions in the region, to replace what we had been doing with Asia, for this reason we decided to participate in Colombiatex and Colombiamoda, where we had good business appointments, to start working for the first time with Colombian suppliers. We make purchases of accessories, socks, leggings and hats, mainly”, said Jolly.

The director also added that the objective of these events is to increase purchases with Colombia, with the changes of garments that are presented each season in the United States. A position that she also shares Enrique García, commercial manager of Sunday Garments S.A de C.V, one of the main suppliers of Colombian girdles in Mexico.

On the other hand, one of the heavyweights of the United States in fashion such as Tory Burch, is in talks with several Colombian brands to close deals in the coming months, thanks to the excellent quality of Colombia in clothing and to the fact that Chinese products and those from various Asian destinations are at very high prices due to high transportation costs, said Fernando Lobo, consultant and cost strategist.

Figures of fashion exports continue to rise

It is worth noting that Colombian fashion exports grew 42.1%, reaching US$344.6 million, between January and May 2021. The main Buyers were the United States (US$130.1 million), Ecuador (US$41.5 million) and Mexico (US$32.1 million), according to figures from Dane with analysis by ProColombia.

Finally, ProColombia announced that Antioquia, Bogotá, Valle del Cauca, Atlántico, Cundinamarca and Santander led fashion exports in the first five months of the year.
