Icon of Style From a purely sporty context, this garment has become a functional icon of masculine style

By Fashion GQ

The word Joggers comes from the English jogging (which refers to jogging or running constantly) therefore, this explains the aesthetics of joggers pants totally linked to sport and comfort. The history of these pants is not precisely defined -because it is often confused with the origin of sports pants- However, one of the most notorious hypotheses about its birth begins when the city's cyclists began to have problems with their jeans and chains of their bikes. As a solution, they began using springs at the bottom of their pants to create an up-do that would prevent tangles or stains.

The second, and more true story, puts us in context to a famous American clothing firm who sent formats to their design department to create matching sweatshirts with fleece sports pants. Subsequently, an error in the use of the textile gave rise to a pair of trousers with the same pattern as sweatpants, but made of the cotton fabric used to make the Chinese-type trousers. Knowing about the error in production, the company saw the result as a business opportunity, launching a new silhouette on the market with the name: Joggers. This piece presented a breath of fresh air in a setting where the possibilities of masculine style were limited to khakis, shorts and jeans.

It was in the early 2010s (around 2012 to be exact) when joggers made their jump from catwalks to street style. In this short trip, the piece has become a basic of the men's wardrobe, yes a necessary garment for every man and, therefore, a statement that has been renewed and has influenced the making of jeans, cargo and khakis, all, with jogger essence.

A MULTIFUNCTIONAL PIECE

Pantalones joggers: ¿por qué son la solución de estilo de todo hombre?

In addition to being comfortable and practical, the quintessential garment for relaxed looks is not only presented in a sport format. Also, its versatility allows it to adapt to the codes of traditional elegance. Ermenegildo Zegna's division, Z Zegna, for SS '20, has offered a new look at the jogger: multifunctional. The sporty inspiration is reflected in traditional garments such as pleated trousers or superior garments such as a classic Harrington jacket or an aviator jacket. This renewal is applied to dress pants (high-waisted, executive cut or pinstripe) but all with elastic detail at the ankle. This detail, at this point, does not lose the elegance of the garment, but rather brings it closer to the contemporary vision of it.

SUITS WITH JOGGERS

The current image of tailoring has shifted towards utilitarian silhouettes: multi-pocket blazers, more relaxed textiles, technology applied to fabrics and, of course, a much more practical and functional aesthetic. The jogger pants have been merged with the dress classics (pair of the jacket) to maintain almost the same shape as the traditional pants, but with the element that transforms everything: the lower spring. Firms such as Louis Vuitton, Ermenegildo Zegna, Gucci, Dior and a long etcetera have used jogger pants as the common thread between elegance and practicality. In 2020, it is time to bet and replace formal pants with innovative proposals and learn how to wear and wear jogger pants.

THE NEW BEST FRIEND IN THE WHITE SHIRT

Office looks can be renewed thanks to the freshness of joggers. And it is that, at this point, mixing pieces "formerly" considered as sports, today, fit perfectly as semi-formal clothing (such is the case with the polo shirt, which went from being a mere tennis shirt to the iconic garment of the CasualFriday).
