University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT). This is the name with which the Community of Madrid is going to increase its number of university centers. The Governing Council has given the go-ahead for its implementation, although the project for the creation of this university must still be processed in the Madrid Assembly.

UDIT will provide face-to-face training and will be specialized in three areas of knowledge. Initially it will offer eight degrees. Five of them are already on offer today. These degrees are Video Game Design and Development, Multimedia and Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Product Design, Sustainable Design, Innovation, Business and Digital Economy, and Animation Film.

The educational programming will also include eight master's degrees, three of which have already been verified and one is being taught. This higher education corresponds to the Master's Degree in Fashion; Applied Technologies and Digital Business, in User Experience for the Design of Digital Products and Services, in Video Game Creation, in Integral Brand Management, in Analysis and Data Management, in Photography and Digital Art, in Design of Bags, Footwear and Fashion Accessories and Virtual and Augmented Reality.

The forecast is that it will offer more than 900 new places in bachelor's degrees and more than 600 master's degrees in the five-year horizon, according to the data estimated by the entity promoting the project released by the Community of Madrid.

In terms of research, the project includes several lines of action. One of them is the creation of the doctoral program, apart from opening an office for the transfer of research results (OTRI). An agreement will also be established with the CNEAI (National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity) for the recognition of six-year researchers and a center for entrepreneurship and support for startups.

Objective: to be a benchmark center

Once launched, UDIT will be the largest university in design, innovation and technology in Spain. Currently, the University School of Design, Innovation and Technology (ESNE) -has requested authorization from UDIT- is already the largest design and technology campus. Its training offer includes 13 official programs and around 12,000 students.

The goal is to be a world reference like Parsons or SVA in New York or Central St. Martins in London. In addition, it is intended to reach 3,500 students, 25% international, according to the Community.

University ecosystem in Madrid

This new center will form part of a campus that will have an area of ​​more than 20,000 square meters. The first data points to a generation of more than 150 additional direct jobs. More than 400 indirect jobs will also be created related to the construction of new trades and the arrival of international students, among other related factors.

UDIT will join the educational system of the Community of Madrid, which has six public universities (Alcalá, Autónoma, Carlos III; Complutense, Politécnica and Rey Juan Carlos) and 11 private ones (Alfonso X el Sabio, Antonio de Nebrija, Camilo José Cela, CEU San Pablo, Europea de Madrid, Francisco de Vitoria, Internacional Villanueva, UDIMA, ESIC and CUNEF.In addition, there is the International Business University and the Pontificia de Comillas and the central headquarters are in the process of being launched of the UNED.

More than 320,000 students study in Madrid, of whom 61% study at public universities and 20% at private ones. The rest of the students are trained in affiliated and distance centers.
