The UN International Labor Organization (ILO) revealed that in addition to the fact that women were more affected than men, the most “punished” were those of the informal sector.

In America, the ILO registered the greatest loss of women's jobs because of the pandemic, with 9.4 percent of lost jobs, compared to a 7 percent decrease in the case of men.

In the same analysis, it was detected that much of the female employment occurs in sectors in the informal economy.

That is the case of Laura, who despite having graduated in Tourism, works as a merchant of wings and desserts to achieve the subsistence of her family.

Laura had to cut the time she spent attending her business since the pandemic began, first for confinement, which forced her to sell only to take, and then because her children began to take their school activities at home.

According to the ILO, the pandemic altered the means of making the lives of women working in the informal sector, since many of these businesses closed temporarily or definitely during the health emergency, which pushed several of them to poverty.

Although his children, a nine -year -old boy and a seven -year -.

Because the days of greatest sale are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Laura leaves her children in charge of her father, who is currently separating, which makes the organization of care and attention to minors even more.

“It is complicated that I can enter a formal job because if not those who would take care of my children Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday that are the days that their dad goes to the office.Fortunately he has the permission to work from home Thursday and Friday because of the pandemic and as I work from Thursday to Saturday in informal work, he is very cannon, ”he says.

Due to the lack of support policies, working women in Mexico have turned out to be the most harmed, unlike those of other nations in which, according to ILO, measures were taken to avoid loss of jobs.

In this regard, Mauricio Ramírez, professor at the Tec de Monterrey Chair and public policy specialist points out that if there have been no support from the Government, there will be no longer despite returning to confinement, due to the lack of resources andthat have other priorities.

“The problem is that the basis of all public policies are resources, but the government has no resources because it did not carry out a tax reform and is channeling a lot of money to Pemex, CFE and social programs that there is no evidence that they have positive powerIn society, ”he says about it.
