According to the COVID-19 vaccine report in Puerto Rico, on January 21, only 32.9% (75,781) of children under 5 to 11 had the two doses of this vaccine, while 54.2% (124,938) had only the first the first.

The estimated population in this age group amounts to 227,000.The figure means that some 27,000 boys and girls in this sector have not received the first dose of the series, which requires two doses with 21 days of difference between one and the other.

The governor recalled that the only exceptions to his order are for duly validated medical or religious reasons. He pointed out that those who do not meet will be given the alternative to continue classes remotely.

“Vaccination is indispensable. To say that the failure is not fair. The vaccine over time loses effectiveness. Therefore, reinforcement is important, ”he said.

In fact, the governor anticipated that next Thursday will announce an extension to the mandates of the reinforcement of the vaccine that he has been ordering in different sectors of the country.

"The reinforcement does work and it is important to be protected, particularly those of older ones," he said, regretting the amount of older adults that are reported daily among the fatalities of COVID-19.

Today, 42 deaths from the virus were reported, the highest figure reported in a day in Puerto Rico for this condition. They already add 3,673 deaths by COVID-19 on the island.Of the 42 reported yesterday, 38 were from people 60 years or older, including a 101 -year -old man.

The governor called on the population to let science and medicine, not for ideological or religious issues linked to the vaccine. He stressed that for a person to be considered completely vaccinated against COVID-19 implies that he also has the reinforcement (third or second dose, according to the brand).

On people who question the validity of the vaccine as protection of the virus, Pierluisi said that most of those who complicate themselves by the condition and require hospitalization or die are older adults or people with their committed immune system. He commented that what has been observed is that those who have the reinforcement and are infected tend to have minor symptoms.

According to the vaccine report, on January 21, 947,703 people on the island had the reinforcement of the vaccine.

On the other hand, the designated secretary of Education, Eliezer Ramos Parés, said yesterday that schools have hygiene and protection materials, as well as the knowledge of what to do to try to prevent contagioscovid-19 on the schools.

Meanwhile, Jessenia Candelaria, from Guaynabo, led her children Jomar, 14, and Lyan, 17, to put the vaccine reinforcement at the Central Park Clinic.

"He (Jomar) had a friend who infected and was in a fan and everything, but that's fine," said Candelaria, by praising the way his children were vaccinated at the clinic, without having to get off the car.

María Cora, from Toa Baja, also took her 5 -year -old son, to receive the first dose of the vaccine.

The nurse Jesslian García said that at noon yesterday, only about 10 to 12 minors had come to vaccinate there.
